If you are typing a password or user name on a Blackberry, you may have encountered this frustration: the first character is forced to uppercase. Googling, I found others with the problem but no solution.

I happend upon the solution out of desparation: press the SYM for symbols key, then hit the escape key. The next key press will be lowercase even if at the start of a field.
